Resources for Students
Students are welcome to visit the Ombuds Office with concerns regarding their academic environment that they want to discuss in an informal and confidential setting. However, there are a variety of other resources available to students for other issues and needs:
Academic Resource Center (ARC)
The Academic Resource Center (ARC) strives to create an inclusive environment for all by promoting equity and access through student consultations, facilitation of reasonable accommodations on the basis of disability, and support for University partners implementing those accommodations. In addition to disability support, the ARC encourages all Georgetown students to take advantage of our academic support services, which include study skills webinars and workshops, consultation with our learning skills specialists, and drop-in foreign language tutoring.
Counseling and Psychiatric Service (CAPS)
Counseling and Psychiatric Service (CAPS) is a resource that serves the mental health care needs of students and the campus community. CAPS is open Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm. To schedule an appointment with CAPS, contact the intake coordinator at (202) 687-6985.
Center for Multicultural Equity and Access (CMEA)
The Center for Multicultural Equity & Access (CMEA) supports the success of students historically denied access to Georgetown University because of their varying social identities. The CMEA provides mentoring, multicultural programming, diversity education, and academic support. The CMEA is located within the Office of Student Equity and Inclusion on the lower level of New South (Front Entrance Located across from Leo O’Donovan Dining Hall underneath the entrance to the Healey Family Student Center). Center for New Designs in Learning and Scholarship
The Center for New Designs in Learning and Scholarship (CNDLS) at Georgetown University serves as a hub for innovation in teaching and learning. CNDLS collaborates with faculty, staff, and students to enhance educational practices through various programs and services. These include faculty development, curriculum design, learning assessment, and technology integration. By promoting a culture of continuous improvement and creative pedagogical strategies, CNDLS aims to enrich the academic experience and support the university’s commitment to academic excellence and inclusivity. The Division of Student Affairs enhances the student experience through services and programs that support academic, personal, and professional growth. This office oversees various student services, including health and wellness, residential living, and student organizations. Georgetown Emergency Response Medical Service (GERMS)
The Georgetown Emergency Response Medical Service (also known as GERMS and Georgetown EMS) is a volunteer, student-run emergency ambulance service. GERMS operates basic life support ambulances that serve Georgetown University and the broader Georgetown community. GERMS is in service 24 hours per day, 7 days per week during Georgetown’s Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters. When GERMS is out of service over select holidays, Georgetown University contacts District of Columbia Fire and Emergency Medical Services to respond to medical emergencies.
GERMS has a medical amnesty policy which states that if you are a Georgetown student and are concerned about the health or well-being of another student, neither you nor the ill student will be subject to disciplinary action if you contact GERMS for medical care.

Georgetown University Police Department (GUPD)
The Georgetown University Police Department (GUPD) provides security and police services on the Georgetown University Main and Medical Center campuses and off campus properties. Utilizing foot patrols, vehicles, and bicycles, the officers patrol the campus twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.
The Georgetown University Police Department officers are commissioned special police, vested through the District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department with full powers of arrest on campus property. DPS works closely with the Metropolitan Police Department and District of Columbia Fire Department to prevent and deter crime on campus and in the surrounding communities and respond quickly to incidents that may arise.
The Georgetown University Police Department is located on the first floor of Village C West.
Georgetown University Veterans Office
The Georgetown University Veterans Office provides support and resources to veterans and military-connected students. This office helps navigate VA benefits, offers academic advising, and creates a community through events and programs tailored to the needs of veterans. Health Education Services (HES)
Health Education Services (HES) is a resource that provides assessment, treatment, and/or referrals around a wide range of health issues (e.g., body image, eating disorders, nutrition, substance abuse, stress management, sexual assault, relationship violence, stalking, pregnancy, and overall health and wellness). HES also offers clinical services, which are completely free and confidential. HES is open Monday-Friday, 10am-5pm and is located in 101 Poulton Hall. The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Questioning (LGBTQ) Resource Center provides various educational programs, advocacy initiatives, community building opportunities, and celebratory events to Georgetown students, faculty, staff, and alumni of all sexual orientations and gender identities. The center is located in the Office of Student Equity and Inclusion (OSEI) – Garden Level of New South and is open Monday-Friday, 9am-5:30pm.
Office of Global Services (OGS)
International Student Services helps F-1 and J-1 students to maintain and maximize their U.S. immigration benefits; aids academic departments in supporting students to complete their degree; ensures the University’s institutional immigration compliance; and provides in-person and virtual immigration and social programming and events. Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity and Affirmative Action (IDEAA)
Cases in which a student feels that he or she has been discriminated against by a faculty member or university administrator or harassed by a faculty member, university administrator, or colleague should be taken to the Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity and Affirmative Action (IDEAA).
The Office of Neighborhood Life supports students living off-campus by fostering positive relationships with neighbors and addressing issues related to off-campus living. Office of Student Financial Services (OSFS)
The Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) provides counseling services to prospective and current students and their families on a range of topics including available options for financing higher education costs, eligibility for assistance, applying for and obtaining funding, and budgeting expenses and paying bills. The OSFA is located on the lower level of the White Gravenor building in the Student Services Center and their regular business hours are Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm ET. Students can schedule a virtual meeting with their financial aid advising team at the OSFA Virtual Meeting Request Page https://finaid.georgetown.edu/virtual_meeting_request/ . To visit the OSFA in the Student Services Center, visitors must enter the lower level of the building via the East entrance by the koi pond.

The Office of Student Conduct promotes a safe and respectful community by upholding the Student Code. Office of Student Outreach and Support (SOS)
The Office of Student Outreach and Support is a non-confidential resource providing holistic support and facilitating timely access to critical resources when students are experiencing crisis, distress or significant personal difficulty that impacts their ability to thrive at Georgetown. SOS works with colleagues and students across campus to help organize outreach and follow-up care and is located in 530 Leavey Center.

Residential Ministers (RMs) and Jesuits-in-Residence (JIRs) live in university residence halls and apartments to accompany and support students of any or no faith tradition. The twenty-five trained pastoral ministers represent a variety of faith traditions, professional careers and personal backgrounds. Together with the full-time Campus Ministry staff, RMs and JIRs embody Georgetown’s commitment to cura personalis by caring deeply for the spiritual, emotional and social needs of all students.
Student Employment Office (SEO)
The SEO connects Georgetown students with on-campus and off-campus job opportunities to include the Federal Work Study Program. We provide resources and assistance with job searches, hiring and payroll processes, employment verifications, and compliance with University policies, as well as local and federal regulations. The health center is staffed by primary care physicians and nurse practitioners with particular training and experience in college health. The Student Health Center offers a range of services including common health issues (such as respiratory infections, abdominal pain, dermatological conditions) and urgent problems. For after hours urgent health concerns, please call the page operator at (202) 444-7243 and ask for the SHC clinician on call.
The Georgetown University School of Nursing educates future nurses at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels. The school focuses on reducing health disparities and promoting health equity through innovative education, leadership, practice, research, and service. The Title IX office offers resources for students, faculty, and staff on issues relating to sexual misconduct, discrimination based on sex, and discrimination based on pregnancy. The Title IX website provides resource and support options, information on how to report, information on supportive measures, and contact information for Deputy Title IX Coordinators. Persons who are unsure about whether they want to report may contact a confidential counselor . Going to a confidential counselor does not foreclose the opportunity to make a report to the University or file a formal complaint at a later time. Confidential counselors can also help persons understand what reporting options are available and assist with the process if they choose to file a formal complaint.
The Women’s Center supports and empowers students at Georgetown. The Women’s Center seeks to center the experience of women and marginalized genders and educate the entire campus about gender dynamics that impact campus culture. The Women’s Center seeks to create a more equitable campus for a more expansive notion of gender and gender roles. They serve students of all gender identities. The Women’s Center is located in the lower level of the Healey Family Student Center in the Office of Student Equity and Inclusion.
